What should I bring?
Travel light, come dressed ready to get wet (swim suit), towel, sunscreen, a hat and
if you would like a t-shirt or rash guard for additional sun cover up
(what ever you wear in the boat will get wet).
It is always nice to have a camera along. However, we do
discourage bringing out expensive camera's that can be damaged when
exposed to water. We strongly recommend waterproof disposal
cameras as your best bet.
If you have your own snorkel gear feel free to bring it along, if
not we provide all necessary gear.
We do provide small
“dry bags”, however we can not guarantee that items
you carry will not get wet. General rule of thumb is bring along what you want to get wet.
Do I need previous kayaking experience?
No experience is necessary. After a few minutes of instruction by
our expert guides, you’ll be paddling out beyond the surf
and exploring the scenic bays and inlets along Maui’s shoreline.
The group sets the pace, not the guide. Most of our trips are planned
as a leisurely paddle available to all ability levels. Whether it's
the first time on a kayak or experienced paddlers, this is a wonderful
experience. A highlight on most tours is snorkeling with the endangered
green sea turtle in it’s natural environment.
What’s included in the price?
Small personalized groups, experienced guides, instruction, sit-on-top
sea kayaks (double or single), top quality snorkel gear, refreshments
and snack.
How many people are generally on each trip?
We limit our scheduled departures to a maximum of 8 people per guide.
Our average tour size is 6. With Kelli's Kayak Tours you are
guaranteed small groups. Keep in mind that we can arrange larger groups for exclusive group or family tours.
I have never snorkeled before, is that OK?
No problem. Our guides will give you detailed instructions and in
no time you’ll be enjoying Maui’s marine life first
hand. You personal guide will be right there with you. They have
great knowledge of the local waters and are CPR as well as First
Aid trained. A highlight on most tours is snorkeling with the endangered
green sea turtle in it’s natural environment.
Where do we snorkel?
Snorkeling is done from the kayaks. This allows us to reach some
of the better snorkel areas that are a more difficult to reach from
a beach. Your guides provide you detailed instruction before we
paddle out on how to get in and out of the kayaks will be with you
to assist if necessary when on the water.
I don’t swim, can I still participate?
Absolutely. You need not be a swimmer in order to enjoy our kayaking/snorkeling
guided tours. We provide each person with a life vest. You don’t
have to snorkel if you choose not too but our highly experienced
guides are more than happy to teach you and in no time you’ll
be exposed to a whole new world!
What about children?
We prefer that children be 7 years or older and is at the discretion
of our guides. We do ask that children are accompanied by a parent
and share a tandem kayak.
Is the snorkeling equipment disinfected?
Yes, we wash and disinfect all our snorkel gear everyday.
What is the average temperature in and out of the water?
We are blessed with warm weather all year around and weather temperatures
can on average range from approx. 70 – 90 degrees. Be warned
the sun can be intense, so sunscreen is a must and a hat is recommended.
Depending on the season, water temperature can vary from 75 degrees
and up to 82 degrees.
What’s the difference between the 2 - 3 hour
trips and the 4 ½ - 5 hour tours?
Our longer trips include a beach picnic lunch, cover a greater distance
along the shoreline and at least one additional stop for snorkeling.
